WalkPilot
Privacy Policy
Last updated: 19 October 2026
WalkPilot is a step counter with virtual journeys and walking plans, made by SnailPixel. This page explains what happens to your information when you use it.
The short version
- No account, and no server of ours. We never receive your steps, walks, weight or goals, so we cannot see, sell or share them.
- Everything you track is stored only on your phone.
- Your steps come from your phone's built-in step sensor, read on the phone.
- The free version shows ads from Google AdMob. Nothing you track is ever sent with an ad request.
- WalkPilot Plus is bought through Google Play. We never see your payment details.
What you enter and where it is kept
| Information | Where it is kept |
|---|---|
| Daily steps (from the sensor, or steps you add by hand) | Private app storage on your phone |
| Daily step goal, height, goal weight, units (km or miles, kg or lb) | Private app storage on your phone |
| Weight entries and dates | Private app storage on your phone |
| Journey progress, postcards unlocked, medals | Private app storage on your phone |
| Walking plan progress (which walks you finished) | Private app storage on your phone |
Distance, calories, streaks, journey progress and weight insights are all calculated on your phone. None of this information is sent to us or to anyone else by the app.
Android cloud backup and device-to-device transfer are switched off for WalkPilot, so your data is not copied to Google's backup either. This also means that if you uninstall the app or lose your phone, we cannot recover your data.
Step counting and the "physical activity" permission
WalkPilot asks Android for the physical activity permission so it can read your phone's step counter sensor. The sensor counts steps on its own, using very little battery; WalkPilot reads the running total when you open the app, from its home screen widget, and about every 15 minutes in the background, and files the steps under the right day. The step data stays on your phone. If you do not allow the permission, the app still works and you can add steps by hand.
WalkPilot does not use GPS or your location. Journeys are virtual: they move with your step count, not with where you are.
Guided walks and voice
The voice cues on guided walks are recorded audio files inside the app. The number of minutes is spoken by your phone's own text-to-speech engine. WalkPilot never uses the microphone and never records anything.
Ads (free version)
The free version shows a banner on the Progress screen and, at most occasionally, a full screen ad after you finish a guided walk. Ads come from Google AdMob. To show and measure ads, Google's software may collect and share:
- your approximate location, worked out from your IP address,
- ad interactions (ads shown and tapped),
- diagnostics and crash logs of the ads software,
- device identifiers, such as the advertising ID and the app-set ID.
Ads may be personalised based on this information. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, we ask for your consent first through Google's consent form, and you can change your choice at any time. Everywhere, you can reset or delete your advertising ID in your Android settings (Settings > Privacy > Ads). We never send your steps, walks, weight or goals to ad networks: ad requests contain no information about what you track.
Google's use of this data is described at https://policies.google.com/technologies/ads and https://policies.google.com/privacy.
WalkPilot Plus has no ads, and Plus users are not asked for ad consent.
Purchases
WalkPilot Plus is a subscription sold through Google Play. Google handles the payment; we only learn whether your subscription is active, and the app remembers that on your phone. You can cancel any time in Google Play > Payments and subscriptions.
Reviews
After a happy moment (finishing a journey) the app may show Google Play's own review prompt, at most once. Anything you write there goes to Google Play, under Google's terms.
Children
WalkPilot is a general audience app for teenagers and adults. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Deleting your data
Because your data never reaches us, there is nothing for us to delete on our side. You can delete everything WalkPilot stored on your phone by uninstalling the app, or with Android Settings > Apps > WalkPilot > Storage > Clear storage.
Security
Your information is kept in WalkPilot's private storage, which Android keeps separate from other apps. Data sent by the ads and billing software travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS).
Health information
WalkPilot is for general wellness. Distance and calories are estimates, not medical advice. Check with a doctor before starting a new exercise plan.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the "Last updated" date.
