TunePoint

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 5 October 2026

TunePoint is a tuner, chord library, chord trainer and metronome for guitar, bass, ukulele, violin and other instruments, made by SnailPixel ("we", "us"). This policy explains what the app does with your information. In short: your music stays yours.

The short version

1. The microphone

TunePoint asks for microphone permission the first time you open the tuner. You can say no: the tuner then cannot hear your instrument, but everything else still works, including tuning by ear with the app's reference tones.

When you allow it, the microphone is on only while the tuner screen or a chord trainer exercise is open and the app is in the foreground. It switches off as soon as you leave that screen or the app, and Android shows its usual microphone indicator while it is on.

The sound is analysed on your phone, in memory, in tiny pieces that are thrown away a fraction of a second later. The app keeps only the result on screen, for example "A2, 14 cents sharp". It does not store, upload or share any recording, and no part of the audio is sent with ads or to anyone else. While the app plays its own reference tone or example strum, it ignores the microphone.

2. Information stored on your phone

These stay in the app's private storage on your phone and are never sent to us or anyone else:

  • your instrument, chosen tunings and any custom tunings you create;
  • your settings (reference pitch, precision, note names, sound and vibration, left-handed chord diagrams, metronome tempo and sounds);
  • your best chord trainer scores;
  • a few app counters (when the app was first opened, how many full tunings you have done, whether we already asked for a review or for microphone access);
  • whether you have TunePoint Plus, and when a one-hour pass earned by watching a video ends.

Android cloud backup and device transfer are switched off for TunePoint, so these are not copied to your Google account. Uninstalling the app deletes them for good.

3. Advertising (free version only)

The free version shows ads from Google AdMob in three places only:

  • a banner at the bottom of the chord library;
  • an occasional full-screen ad at a natural break: after you close a chord's detail card, or when you leave a finished trainer exercise. Never in your first minutes with the app, and only every few breaks, several minutes apart;
  • an optional video you can choose to watch on the TunePoint Plus screen, which unlocks Plus features for one hour. It never plays unless you tap it.

There are never ads on the tuner screen, during a trainer exercise or on the metronome. TunePoint Plus removes all ads.

To show and measure ads and to prevent fraud, Google may collect your device's advertising ID, an approximate location derived from your IP address, which ads were shown or tapped, and diagnostic information about the ad software. Ads may be personalised where you allow it. Nothing about your playing, your tunings or your microphone is ever included in an ad request. Google handles this data under its privacy policy; see also how Google uses information from apps that use its services.

Your choices: in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, the app asks for your consent before any ads load, and you can change your choice at any time in Settings > Ad privacy choices. Everywhere, you can reset or delete your advertising ID or opt out of personalised ads in your phone's Android settings.

4. Purchases

TunePoint Plus is a subscription sold through Google Play. Google processes the payment under its own privacy policy, and we never receive your card or billing details. The app only learns whether your subscription is active and remembers that on your phone. You can manage or cancel the subscription in the Google Play Store app.

5. Reviews

After you have tuned your whole instrument a couple of times, the app may show Google Play's standard rating card, at most once. That card is run by Google Play; we only see a public review if you choose to post one.

6. What we do not do

  • No account, sign-up or login.
  • No analytics, tracking or crash-reporting tools of our own.
  • We do not record, store or upload audio.
  • We do not access your contacts, photos, files, precise location, calendar or messages.
  • We do not sell your data.

7. Internet use

Tuning, reference tones, chords, the trainer and the metronome all work offline. The internet is used only by Google AdMob (free version) and Google Play (subscriptions and the rating card), and all of that traffic is encrypted.

8. Children

TunePoint is a general music tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If a young player uses the app, for example to tune a school violin, the app itself still collects nothing; please make sure an adult manages the ad choices above, or use TunePoint Plus, which shows no ads.

9. Your rights and deleting your data

Because we hold no data about you, there is nothing for us to delete or send you. To delete everything the app stores on your phone, uninstall it or clear its storage in Android Settings > Apps > TunePoint > Storage. For data held by Google (ads, purchases), use your Google account settings. If you are in the EEA or UK you have rights of access, correction, deletion and objection, and you are welcome to contact us about them.

10. Changes and contact

If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top, and mention important changes in the release notes. Questions: [email protected].
