Privacy Policy

Last updated: 5 October 2026

ReadText is a teleprompter and video recorder app for Android, made by SnailPixel ("we", "us"). This policy explains what happens to your information when you use it.

The short version

Information you create

  • Scripts (title and text): kept in a file in the app's private storage on your phone. Only you can see them.
  • App settings (speed, text size, colours, countdown and so on): kept in the app's private settings on your phone.
  • Videos you record: saved to your phone's gallery, in the Movies/ReadText folder. You, and any app you allow to read your gallery, can see them.

Android backup is switched off for ReadText, so scripts and settings are not copied to Google Drive. If you uninstall the app, your scripts and settings are deleted. Videos stay in your gallery until you delete them there.

Camera and microphone

ReadText asks for camera and microphone access the first time you open the recorder. They are used only while the recorder screen is open: the camera shows the preview and records your video, and the microphone records your video's sound. The finished video is written straight to your gallery. We do not receive it. The scrolling script is shown on screen only and is never part of the video.

Voice pace (optional). When you turn on Voice pace, the app measures how loud the microphone is, many times a second, to tell when you are speaking. While filming, it uses the recorder's own sound level. In "Prompt only" mode, it listens to the microphone level directly. In both cases only the loudness is used, on your phone, and it is thrown away immediately. Nothing is recorded, turned into text or sent anywhere.

On Android 9 and older, the app also asks for storage access so it can save the video into your Movies folder.

Text you paste or share into the app

Paste reads your clipboard only when you tap a Paste button. Share to ReadText from another app creates a new script from the text you shared. That text becomes a script and stays on your phone like any other script.

Advertising (free version)

The free version shows ads from Google AdMob: a banner on the scripts list, an occasional full-screen ad when you return to the scripts list after saving a video, and an optional ad you can choose to watch to unlock one full-length video. Ads never appear while you write or record. ReadText Plus subscribers see no ads, and the ads library is not started for them.

To show and measure ads, the Google Mobile Ads SDK may collect and process your device's advertising ID and app set ID, your approximate location (worked out from your IP address; ReadText never asks for your location), information about ad views and taps, and diagnostic information about the SDK's own performance and crashes. Nothing you write or record is ever included in an ad request.

In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, ReadText asks for your consent using Google's consent form before any ad is requested. You can change your choice at any time in Settings > Ad privacy choices. Outside those regions, ads may be personalised; you can reset or delete your advertising ID, or opt out of personalised ads, in your phone's Android settings (Settings > Privacy > Ads). See Google's privacy policy and How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

Purchases (ReadText Plus)

ReadText Plus is a subscription handled by Google Play Billing. Google processes your payment; the app only learns whether your subscription is active, and remembers that on your phone. You can manage or cancel the subscription in the Google Play app.

What we do not do

  • We do not run servers that receive your data, and we do not have user accounts.
  • We do not use analytics or crash-reporting tools of our own.
  • We do not sell your information.
  • We do not access your contacts, precise location, photos (other than saving your own new videos), or files.

Children

ReadText is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.

Security

All network traffic from the app (ads and Google Play) uses encrypted connections (HTTPS). Your scripts are stored in the app's private storage, which other apps cannot read.

Your choices and rights

  • Delete your scripts in the app, or uninstall the app.
  • Delete your videos from your gallery.
  • For ads, change your consent in Settings > Ad privacy choices, reset your advertising ID in Android settings, or get ReadText Plus to remove ads.
  • Because we do not hold your scripts or videos, there is nothing on our side to access, correct or delete. For data held by Google for ads or purchases, see Google's privacy tools.
