QRit

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 5 October 2026

QRit (package com.snailpixel.qrit) is a QR code and barcode scanner and QR code maker for Android, made by SnailPixel ("we", "us"). This policy explains what happens to your information when you use it.

The short version

Data you create and where it is kept

  • Scan history: the text of each code, its type and format, the time, whether it came from the camera, an image or was created by you, and your favourites. Kept in a database in the app's private storage.
  • Settings: scan mode (QR code or Barcode), vibrate, beep, auto-zoom, copy to clipboard, keep history and theme, plus a few small counters (first launch time, how many results you used, whether the review prompt was shown).
  • Plus status: whether your subscription is active.

You can switch off Keep history in Settings, and then new scans are not stored at all. The history database is not encrypted; it is protected by Android's app sandbox. Android cloud backup and device transfer are switched off for QRit, so your history is not restored on a new phone.

Camera and images

The camera is used only to read codes. Camera frames are analysed in memory by ML Kit's bundled barcode model and then dropped. Nothing is recorded or uploaded. The QR code / Barcode switch only changes which kinds of codes are read on your phone.

Scan from image uses Android's photo picker, so QRit sees only the one picture you choose and needs no storage permission. The same applies to a screenshot you share to QRit. The picture is read and not kept. A logo you add to a QR code (Plus) is picked the same way and stays in memory only.

Like other ML Kit features, the barcode reader may send Google anonymous technical metrics, such as device model, app version and whether a scan worked. It does not send images or code contents. See the ML Kit terms.

Links and the safety check

Opening a link, joining Wi-Fi, saving a contact, calling, e-mailing, texting, maps, calendar events and product lookup all happen only when you tap. QRit then hands the item to the app that handles it (your browser, Settings, Contacts, Phone and so on), which has its own privacy policy.

Look up product / Search opens a Google web search for the code number or text in your browser. Only that number or text is sent, and only after you tap.

The safe-link check runs entirely on your phone. It looks for look-alike names, hidden destinations, link shorteners, risky endings and app downloads, without any network request. It reports warning signs; it cannot promise that a link is safe.

Data that leaves your phone only when you choose

  • Share (text or a QR image) and Save to Photos (Pictures/QRit) go through Android's share sheet or photo library.
  • Export history (Plus) creates a CSV file of your history and hands it to the share sheet.
  • Copy puts text on the clipboard. Wi-Fi passwords are marked sensitive, so Android 13 and later hide the preview. The Copy to clipboard setting (off by default) copies every scan automatically.

Once you share something, the receiving app handles it under its own policy.

Advertising (free version)

The free version shows ads from Google AdMob, a service of Google:

  • a banner at the bottom of the History screen;
  • an occasional full-screen ad after a QR code you created is saved to Photos: never after sharing, never in the first minutes after installing, never on your very first save, at most every second save and at least 3 minutes apart;
  • an optional video ad you can choose to watch from a button that says what it unlocks ("Watch a short ad to style this code"), which unlocks the QR design tools for the code you are making.

There are never ads on the camera or scanning screen. The ad SDK only starts when you open History or Create, and never for Plus subscribers. Nothing you scan or create is ever included in an ad request.

To show and measure ads and to prevent fraud, Google may collect your IP address (which gives an approximate location), device and app information, ad interactions, diagnostics, and your advertising ID or app set ID. Ads may be personalised where you allow it. Google handles this data under its privacy policy; see also how Google uses information from apps that use its services.

Consent: in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, Google's consent form is shown at launch where required, before any ad is requested. You can change your choice in Settings > Ad privacy choices (shown when required). You can also reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone's settings.

Purchases (QRit Plus)

QRit Plus is an optional monthly or yearly subscription sold through Google Play. Google handles the payment and we never see your payment details. The app only learns whether your subscription is active and keeps that on your phone. You can manage or cancel it any time in Google Play.

Permissions

  • Camera: reading codes. Scan from image works without it.
  • Internet and network state: ads and Google Play purchases. Scanning works offline.
  • Advertising ID: ads, as described above.
  • Billing: the Plus subscription.

QRit does not use location, contacts, storage, microphone, phone or SMS permissions. Contacts, calls, texts, calendar events and Wi-Fi are handed to your phone's own apps, so QRit never needs those permissions.

What we do not do

  • No account and no server that stores your data.
  • No analytics or crash-reporting tools of our own (no Firebase, no Crashlytics).
  • We do not sell your data and do not use it to train AI.

Your choices and deleting data

Delete a single scan, use Clear history (favourites are kept), or switch off Keep history. Uninstalling QRit removes everything. Because there is no account, there is nothing on a server for us to delete. For ad data, use Ad privacy choices or Google's own tools.

Children

QRit is not directed at children under 13 and is not part of Google Play's Families program.

Changes and contact

If QRit starts handling data differently, we will update this page and the date at the top. Questions about this policy: [email protected].
