MilePilot
Privacy Policy
Last updated: 7 October 2026
MilePilot is a mileage tracker that logs your drives, lets you sort them into business and personal, and builds reports with an estimated tax deduction. It is made by SnailPixel ("we", "us"). This policy explains what the app does with your information. In short: your drives stay on your phone.
The short version
- MilePilot uses your location to measure drives, including in the background when automatic logging is on. Your drives, routes and places are stored only on your phone.
- No account and no server of ours. We never receive your drives or your location.
- The free version shows ads from Google AdMob on the Trips and Reports screens only. Your precise location is never given to advertisers.
- Subscriptions are handled by Google Play. We never see your payment details.
1. Location and physical activity
Automatic logging (optional). If you turn it on, MilePilot asks for location access "all the time" and for physical activity access, after explaining why in its own screen. Android's activity recognition tells the app when you start and stop driving; only then does MilePilot switch on GPS to measure the drive, and it switches GPS off again once the car has been parked for a few minutes. Location is therefore collected even when the app is closed or not in use, but only while you are driving. A silent notification is shown for as long as a drive is being recorded.
Manual drives. If you only use the Start drive button, MilePilot needs location access while in use, and records from the moment you tap Start until you tap End.
For each drive the app keeps the start and end time, the start and end point, the distance and a simplified copy of the route. You can refuse or remove these permissions at any time in Android settings; you can still add drives by hand.
Addresses. To show a street address instead of map coordinates, MilePilot uses Android's built-in address lookup (Geocoder). On most phones that lookup is answered by Google Play services, so the coordinates of the start and end of a drive (never the whole route) are sent to Google for that purpose. If you name a frequent place such as "Home", the app shows that name and no lookup is needed. Drives recorded offline get their address later, when you are back online.
2. Information stored on your phone
These stay in the app's private storage on your phone and are never sent to us:
- your drives (times, start and end points and addresses, distance, route) and the category, purpose and notes you add;
- your vehicles and odometer readings, and the frequent places you name;
- your settings (mileage rate, units, work hours, how long a stop ends a drive);
- a few app counters (when the app was first opened, how many reports you exported, whether we already asked for a review);
- whether you have MilePilot Plus, and when a 24-hour pass earned by watching a video ends.
Android cloud backup and device transfer are switched off for MilePilot, so this data is not copied to your Google account. Settings > Delete all data erases it, and uninstalling the app deletes it for good.
3. Reports you export
CSV and PDF reports are created on your phone. They leave the phone only when you choose to share them through Android's share sheet, to the app or person you pick.
4. Advertising (free version only)
The free version shows ads from Google AdMob in three places only:
- a banner at the bottom of the Trips and Reports screens;
- an occasional full-screen ad at a natural break: when you close a drive you opened from Trips, or when you come back from exporting a report. Never in your first minutes with the app, and only every few breaks, several minutes apart;
- an optional video you can choose to watch on the MilePilot Plus screen, which unlocks Plus features for 24 hours. It never plays unless you tap it.
There are never ads in the inbox where you classify drives, and never while a drive is being recorded. MilePilot Plus removes all ads.
To show and measure ads and to prevent fraud, Google may collect your device's advertising ID, an approximate location derived from your IP address, which ads were shown or tapped, and diagnostic information about the ad software. Ads may be personalised where you allow it. MilePilot never passes your GPS location, your drives or your places to the ad software. Google handles this data under its privacy policy; see also how Google uses information from apps that use its services.
Your choices: in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, the app asks for your consent before any ads load, and you can change your choice at any time in Settings > Ad privacy choices. Everywhere, you can reset or delete your advertising ID or opt out of personalised ads in your phone's Android settings.
5. Purchases
MilePilot Plus is a subscription sold through Google Play. Google processes the payment under its own privacy policy, and we never receive your card or billing details. The app only learns whether your subscription is active and remembers that on your phone. You can manage or cancel the subscription in the Google Play Store app.
6. Reviews
After you export your first report, the app may show Google Play's standard rating card, at most once. That card is run by Google Play; we only see a public review if you choose to post one.
7. What we do not do
- No account, sign-up or login.
- No analytics, tracking or crash-reporting tools of our own.
- We do not upload, sell or share your drives or your location history.
- We do not access your contacts, photos, files, calendar or messages.
8. Internet use
Logging drives, classifying them and building reports all work offline. The internet is used only for address lookups (section 1), Google AdMob (free version) and Google Play (subscriptions and the rating card), and all of that traffic is encrypted.
9. Tax estimates
Deduction amounts are estimates based on published standard mileage rates (for example IRS, HMRC, CRA or ATO) or a rate you enter. They are not tax advice.
10. Children
MilePilot is a tool for drivers and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
11. Your rights and deleting your data
Because we hold no data about you, there is nothing for us to delete or send you. To delete everything the app stores, use Settings > Delete all data, uninstall the app, or clear its storage in Android Settings > Apps > MilePilot > Storage. For data held by Google (ads, purchases, address lookups), use your Google account settings. If you are in the EEA or UK you have rights of access, correction, deletion and objection, and you are welcome to contact us about them.
12. Changes and contact
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top, and mention important changes in the release notes. Questions: [email protected].
