Gentle Words
Privacy Policy
Last updated: 7 October 2026
Gentle Words (package com.snailpixel.gentlewords) is a home-screen widget app for daily quotes, words, affirmations and prompts, made by SnailPixel ("we", "us"). This policy explains what happens to your information when you use it.
The short version
- No account, and no server of ours holds your data. We never receive what you read, save or choose, so we cannot see, sell or share it.
- All quotes, words, affirmations and prompts are built into the app. Reading them needs no internet.
- Your settings, saved cards and optional background photo are stored only on your phone, and in your own Android backup if you use one.
- The free version shows ads from Google AdMob. Where the law requires it, you are asked for consent first, and you can change your choice any time in Settings.
- Plus is bought through Google Play. We never see your payment details.
Information stored on your phone
- Settings: chosen packs, widget style, reminder on or off and times, and which card you are on today.
- Saved cards: the cards you saved with the heart.
- Small app counters: when the app was first opened (to keep new users ad-free for the first minutes), whether we already asked for a review, and when a 24-hour pass ends.
- Custom background (Plus): a smaller copy of a photo you pick for the widget.
- Plus status: whether your subscription is active.
None of this is sent to us or to anyone else by the app. Today's card is picked on your phone from the built-in content. The data is protected by Android's app sandbox; the app does not encrypt it separately.
Photos
The background photo is chosen with Android's photo picker. The app has no storage or media permission and only receives the one photo you pick. A smaller copy is saved in the app's private storage and drawn behind your widget. It is never uploaded. Picking another photo replaces it, and uninstalling removes it.
Backup
Android's own backup is on for Gentle Words, but limited to your settings and your background photo. If you use Android backup, these travel with your Google account to a new phone. That backup is run by Android and Google under your account; we never receive it. Your Plus status is not backed up: a new phone checks it again with Google Play.
Notifications
Optional daily reminders at times you choose (up to three). They are local notifications scheduled on your phone; nothing is sent to a server. The app asks for notification permission only when you switch reminders on.
Widgets
The home-screen widget shows the same card as the app and is drawn on your phone. Widgets never show ads.
Advertising (free version)
The free version shows ads from Google AdMob in these places only:
- a banner at the bottom of the main screen;
- an occasional full-screen ad while you browse cards in the app: never in your first minutes after installing or right after opening the app, at most once every 8 card changes and at least 4 minutes apart, and never on the Plus, settings or saved screens or on the widget;
- an optional video ad you can choose to watch for a 24-hour pass to every pack and style. The button says what you get before you watch.
Plus subscribers see no ads, and the ad software is not started for them. Nothing you read, save or choose in the app is ever included in an ad request.
To show and measure ads and to prevent fraud, Google may collect your IP address (which gives an approximate location), device and app information, your advertising ID or app set ID, ad interactions and diagnostics. Ads may be personalised where you and the law allow it. Google handles this data under its privacy policy; see also how Google uses information from apps that use its services.
Consent: in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, Google's consent form is shown before any ad is requested where required. You can change your choice in Settings > Ad privacy choices (shown when required), and reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone's Android settings.
Purchases (Plus)
Gentle Words Plus is an optional monthly or yearly subscription sold through Google Play, with a free trial on the yearly plan. Google handles the payment and your payment details. The app only learns from Google Play whether your subscription is active and remembers that on your phone. You can manage or cancel it in Google Play.
Permissions
- Internet and network state: ads (free version) and Google Play purchases. Reading cards never uses the network.
- Notifications: daily reminders you switch on.
- Billing: the Plus subscription.
- Advertising ID and Android's ad services: added by the Google Mobile Ads software for ads.
- Wake lock and foreground service: added by Google libraries to run scheduled work such as reminders reliably.
Gentle Words does not use your location, camera, microphone, contacts, files, media or calendar.
What we do not do
- No account, no server that stores your data, no cloud sync.
- No analytics, crash-reporting or tracking tools of our own.
- We do not sell personal data and do not use it to train AI.
Content
Quotes are from public-domain authors and classic public-domain translations, each with its author. Word definitions, affirmations and prompts are written by SnailPixel. Affirmations and prompts are general wellbeing text, not medical or mental-health advice. If you are struggling, please contact a doctor or a local support line.
Your rights and deleting your data
You can see and change everything in the app, and remove a saved card by tapping its heart. To delete everything, uninstall the app or use Android Settings > Apps > Gentle Words > Storage > Clear storage. To also remove the Android backup copy, delete the app's backup in your Google account backup settings. There is no account, so there is nothing to delete on a server of ours. For ad data, use Ad privacy choices in the app (where shown), Android's ad settings or Google's own tools.
Children
Gentle Words is not directed at children under 13 (or 16 where local law requires), and we do not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes and contact
If Gentle Words starts handling data differently, we will update this page and the date at the top, and mention big changes in the release notes. Questions: [email protected].
